Irene H. Sams

94, formerly of Kingston, TN, passed away February 16, 2020. She was born in Osaka, VA on January 20, 1926 to the late William and Lillie (Mason) Hatcher. She married Damon Carson Sams on February 27, 1945 and they lived in Cleveland, Ohio; Big Stone Gap, Virginia; and Kingston, Tennessee. She later moved to Indianapolis, Indiana to be closer to her family.

Irene was a homemaker and was a member of Parma Park Church of God in Cleveland and later Harriman Church of God in Kingston. She taught Sunday school and enjoyed cooking, photography and crotchet. She was very involved in her church and loved sharing her faith with others. She crocheted lap blankets for the elderly and made candy which she loved to share with everyone.

Irene is survived by her son, Rick (Cindi) Sams; granddaughters, Traci (Kevin) Lavender, Christine (Jon) Splater, and Jennifer (Steve) Chambers; niece, Edna Hyder; and many great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Damon Sams; son, Damon “Larry” Sams; daughter, Faith Marie Sams; as well as her sister and brothers.

A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
