Irvin C. Rheins was born on April 7, 1934 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Alexander (Sandy) and Ida Rheins. Irv graduated from Hughes High School and attended the University of Cincinnati. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Germany. He retired from Allstate Insurance Company after 31 years. Irv was a member of North Park Masonic Lodge #646 and a long-time member of the Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation and its Brotherhood. In the 1980's, Irv played an integral role in the Russian Resettlement Program in Indianapolis. He enjoyed auctions, flea markets and garage sales and was a part-time dealer of antiques and collectibles. He loved history and archeology and participated in digs in Israel.
Irv is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Joy (Heffron) Rheins; four children, Carole Faye Walters, Rabbi Richard (Rabbi Susan) Rheins, David Rheins and Cherie Rheins (Thomas) Morgan; six grandchildren, Daniel G. Morgan, Claire Alexa Morgan, Joshua Rheins, Samuel Rheins, Jakob Rheins and Isadore Rheins; his much loved sisters-in-law, Susan Hugenberg and Nancy Brandi, and brother-in-law, Ray Heffron and their families.
Services will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at A.R.N. Funeral & Cremation Services, 11411 North Michigan Road, Zionsville. Burial will be in the Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation Northside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation, 6501 N. Meridian St., Indianapolis, IN 46260.
