Jacquelyn L. Strauss
85, of Indianapolis, passed away June 14, 2013. She was born November 13, 1927 to Parrvyn R. and Helen (Long) Lawson IN Terre Haute, Indiana and moved to Indianapolis in 1937. After graduating from Broad Ripple High School, Jackie attended Butler University where she met and married her loving and devoted husband of 65 years, William H. Strauss.
Jackie was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority, for which she was a dedicated and tireless volunteer. She served the sorority in many local and regional positions before eventually being elected to two terms as a National Officer serving as National Rush Director and National Extension Director. She was, until recent years, an active member of Beta Beta, the Indianapolis Alumni chapter for Alpha Chi.
Jackie was a long time member of the Riviera Club serving numerous terms on the Board of Directors. She was a member of Meridian Street United Methodist Church and worked for McCready and Keene Pension Engineers for 18 years, retiring in 1992.
In addition to her husband, Bill; she is survived by her children, Teresa (Glenn) Montgomery of Nixa, MO, Cynthia (Charles) Gemmer of Fishers IN, and William P. Strauss of New Albany, IN; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Patricia White and Virginia Green; and a brother, William (Mary) Lawson. She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Lawson.
A memorial service celebrating Jackie's life will be held on July 20th at 10:30 AM in the Chapel of Meridian Street United Methodist Church, 5500 N. Meridian Street. The Strauss family will greet family and friends immediately following the service in the church parlor. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alpha Chi Omega Foundation, Inc. at 5939 Castle Creek Pkwy North Drive, Indianapolis, IN 46250-4343.
