James Edward Durlacher
98 of Indianapolis, passed away January 7, 2014. He was born in Aurora, Illinois on July 6, 1915, the younger son of Francis and Anna Harriet Davis Durlacher. James earned a BA in Chemistry at Lewis Institute of Technology, Chicago (now Illinois Institute of Technology) in 1936. He then became a teacher and chemist in Chicago from 1937 -1941.
In 1942, he married Rubye Wyant, and they had two sons, David John Durlacher and James Michael Durlacher. James served in the U.S. Army from February 1941 to April 1946, and was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain.
Later, he became the first Board Certified Radiation Physicist in the State of Indiana in 1951. He was on the staff of Indiana University School of Medicine, the VA Hospital, Methodist Hospital and St. Vincent Hospital before retiring in 1984. He then worked as a consulting physicist for private medical offices and hospitals.
James was predeceased by his wife, Rubye; son, David; and brother, David. He is survived by his son, James (Mary); grandson, Scott Michael; and great grandchildren, Virginia Elizabeth and Liam Edward.
Services are private. Memorial contributions may be made to the All Souls Unitarian Church of Indianapolis; where he was a member.
