James "Gary" Irvin

November 3, 1943 — December 18, 2024

Zionsville

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of James "Gary" Irvin on Wednesday, December 18, 2024. He was 81 years old. Gary was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on November 3, 1943, to James Emih Irvin and Amy Irvin, nee Keller. He spent his childhood years in Otterbein and Lafayette, Indiana and graduated Otterbein High School in 1961. He attended Indiana University and Ball State University, earning his degree in business in 1969. After college, he worked for his father at Irvin's Concrete Products and pursued his love of racing. Gary was active in USAC racing from 1968-1999. He drove Indy Cars in the late 70s. In 1985, he opened his own business, Irvin's Interstate Brick and Block Co., which he ran until he retired in 2007.

Known for his effervescent personality, Gary was well loved by his family, co-workers, and his vast number of friends. He was always good for a joke and a smile and was always there if someone needed help. Gary was a dedicated family man who never missed one of his grandchildren's games, if he could help it, and was a loyal friend who always took the time to stay in touch. He will be greatly missed.

Gary is survived by his wife, Kimberly Irvin, nee Miller of Zionsville; children, Ron and Kylee Gregory-Irvin of Noblesville and Jamie Irvin of Westfield; and stepchildren, Eddie and Maria Pearson of Lafayette and Paula Pearson of Westminster, CO. Other survivors include Lori Gregory of Westfield; his grandchildren, Eddie Pearson, Daasch Pearson, Cal Pearson, Rhett Pearson, Greyson Gregory, Graham Gregory, and Genevieve Gregory; and his sisters, Rebecca (James) Saunders of New York, Beatrice (Kendall) Smith of Lafayette, and Carol (Tom Mote) Rohrabaugh of Columbus.

Aaron-Ruben-Nelson Mortuary was entrusted with arrangements, and the family would like to extend their many thanks for their caring services. The family plans to have a Celebration of Life in May and will reach out to family and friends when arrangements are made.
