James L. Hamersly

James L. Hamersly, 88, passed away on February 6, 2018. He was born on July 28, 1929 in Racine, Wisconsin and was the son of Leslie F. Hamersly and Lova (Karr) Hamersly. Jim attended Washington High School (Washington, Indiana) and graduated from Culver Military Academy in 1947. He attended Indiana University where he was a member of the swim team. He owned and operated Hamersly's Store in Washington until 1973. He married Harriett Rose on October 21, 1951 and she preceded him in death in February, 1987. He then married Elizabeth Bateman in November, 1988. Jim was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian church where he served as an Elder, Deacon and Trustee. He was also active in the Washington Rotary Club and Daviess County Y.M.C.A.

Jim is survived by his children, Gail (Mark) Doades, Alan (Cindy) Hamersly, and Scott (Beverly) Hamersly, 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and granddaughter, Leslie Hamersly.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Washington, Indiana, with Rev. Cheryl Thorne officiating. Friends may visit on Saturday from 11:00 AM until the time of service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Westminster Presbyterian Church.
