James E. Steele

January 30, 1941 — January 23, 2018

James E. Steele, age 76, died peacefully on January 23, 2018, at his home in Westfield, Indiana.

Jim is survived by his son Doug (and his wife Julie) of Westfield, Indiana, his daughter Joy, of St. Louis, Missouri and her children Josh and Jessie. He is also survived by his sisters Mary Campbell, of Ormond-by-the Sea, Florida, Martha Barretta of Winchester, Virginia and Deborah Wesolek of Mannington, New Jersey. He is preceded in death by his wife of forty-nine years, Helen Steele (nee Olsen), his parents, the Reverend Dr. Jack and Anne Lambie Steele; and his sister, Ruth Anne Lynch.

Jim was born on January 30, 1941 in Worcester, Massachusetts, to Jack and Anne Steele. He graduated from Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa with a degree in bio/chemistry. After serving in the Army as a 1st Lieutenant, Jim began his career as a pharmaceutical engineer in research and development at several major pharmaceutical companies. He finished his career as a home builder in Indiana. In retirement, Jim enjoyed driving a school bus for elementary school children.

Jim and Helen enjoyed their evenings with supper club and shared a passion for live music concerts. Jim took great pride in his Scottish heritage, often attending Scottish Games/Gatherings, and had a life-long love of bagpipe music. One of his greatest pleasures was time spent with family and friends on his cherished boat, the Steele Away.

Sail on, dear Captain.
