James A. Stewart

James A. Stewart,

84, of Indianapolis, passed away May 13, 2018. He was born in Hutton Township, IL to Leo and Elizabeth Stewart on February 12, 1934. After graduating from Mattoon High School, James served his country proudly in the United States Navy for four years. He was active in the American Legion Railroad Post as a treasurer and commander. James worked for the New York Central Railroad. He later worked at Renner's Express Trucking Company as a supervisor of sales and then went into business with a partner. He was the owner and operator of Superior Traffic and Transportation.

He loved all sports and played football and baseball. James was a huge Colts fan and also really enjoyed watching racing; especially the Indy 500 and Nascar.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carolyn Stewart; daughters, Candace Mulberry and Cheryl Sumners; grandchildren, Taylor Miller and Holly and Preston Sumners; brothers, Robert, Larry and Jerry Stewart; and sisters, Doris Kull and Lettie Tays. James was preceded in death by his brother, Eugene; sisters, Patti and ErmaJean; and son-in-law, Talbott Sumners.

A visitation will be held at A.R.N. Funeral & Cremation Services, 11411 N. Michigan Rd., on Friday, May 18th from 5 - 7 PM with a memorial service at 7 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
