Janeane Abbitt,

86, of Indianapolis, passed away July 12, 2019. A lifelong resident, she was born April 16, 1933 to George and Wanda Newhouse. Janeane was a graduate of Broad Ripple High School and received her higher degree from William Woods. In addition to her work in a medical office, she was very active in her community. Janeane was a member of the Garden Club of Indianapolis, Delta Theta Tau Sorority, past President of Indianapolis Council of Women, and past Secretary for Women’s Department Club.

She was also a talented costume designer and maker, creating numerous costumes for various local theatre productions. She was recognized for her achievements in this area with a Costume Design award from Foot Light Musicals.

Janeane is survived by her children, David (Ahlie) Abbitt of Vallejo, CA, Michael (Teresa) Abbitt of Pittsburgh, PA, Bruce Abbitt of Greenwood, IN, and Beth (Michael) Moline; 11 grandchildren; and siblings, Nancy Leffler and George “Bud” Newhouse. Her husband, Donald Abbitt, preceded her in death in 2013.

Visitation will be held at A.R.N. Funeral & Cremation Services, 11411 N. Michigan Rd., on Friday, July 19th at 1 PM. A memorial service will follow at 1:30 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Wheeler Mission Center for Women.
