Janet Fay Smith, age 59, of Carmel, passed away Sunday, January 5th, 2020 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was born June 7, 1960 to Fred and Wilma Young. A 1978 graduate of Ben Davis High School, Janet was a lifelong resident of the Indianapolis area, living in Carmel since 1986. Janet was a skilled executive administrative assistant, and was employed at HP Products Corporation until 1993 when she retired to raise her first of two sons. Her involvement with youth sports led to her employment with the Carmel Dad’s Club where she has served in various roles for the last nineteen years, and was the Corporate Sponsorship Coordinator for the last five years. She married the love of her life, Jim Smith, in 1983.
She loved to travel and was a gourmet-level cook, and she and Jim visited many countries over the last several decades, where she could experience different foods and techniques that she brought home for the enjoyment of the entire family. She also loved the Christmas season, and her home was always richly decorated down to the last detail, often with items purchased abroad.
Janet will always be remembered for her devotion to her family, her generosity, and her positive outlook that touched so many hearts. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Jim; her sons, David and Michael; and her granddaughter, Rowan. She is also survived by her mother, Wilma Young; and her twin sister, Judy Eacret (Dan). She was preceded in death by her father, Fred Young; and her sister, Sharon Young.
