Jeff Newman, of Indianapolis, passed away on Monday at age 55. He was born on April 4th, 1961 to Carlotta and Charles Newman.
A web developer by day - and sometimes night, often both - Jeff devoted countless hours to mobilizing and engaging with the LGBTQ+ community in Indianapolis. He co-founded the Indiana Action Network, the first direct action group of its kind in Indiana. He served on the board (past chair and treasurer) of the Indy Rainbow Chamber and took part in planning and executing a multitude of rallies and events.
When he wasn't at the statehouse, on stage, or at the grocery store, Jeff gave every spare second he had to his two children, Mike and Kate. His patience and compassion knew no bounds, and this was no more apparent than in his parenting. Jeff was a beacon of safety and support no matter where or when he was needed.
Through all of this, Jeff still found time to form a loving and inseparable bond with his partner of several years, Theo Parson. At the time of his passing they were finalizing plans to move in together, and Theo had long since been warmly welcomed into the family.
Jeff is survived by Theo, Kate and Mike, his mother, Carlotta, his two brothers, Mark (Denise) and Scott (Cassie), and the innumerable lives he touched through music and activism.
