Jerry A. Murrell,
87, of Carmel, departed this life on September 13, 2019. He was born in Houston, Texas to the late Clarence and Edith Murrell on September 25, 1931. After receiving his Associate’s degree, Jerry worked in sales for many years and then retired as an associate broker with Charles Schwab. Until recently, Jerry was an active member of St. Luke’s Methodist Church and involved with the Stevens Ministry.
In addition to his volunteer work with St. Luke’s, Jerry spent hours donating his time all over Central Indiana. He spent numerous hours volunteering with the Indy Jazz Fest, Indianapolis Museum of Art, Indy Superbowl and the Symphony on the Prairie. He was also known for dressing up as a clown to visit the sick in the hospital.
In his younger years, Jerry was active with the Carmel Dad’s Club, coaching boys’ basketball, and with the Indianapolis Soap Box Derby, building race cars for his children to compete.
He is survived by his children, John L. Murrell, Joseph A. Murrell, Jerilyn M. Murrell, Andrew W. Murrell, and Brian T. Murrell; as well as ten grandchildren. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter, Kim Murrell.
A memorial service will be held at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 100 West 86th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46260, on Thursday, September 26th at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Carmel Dad’s Club or Stevens Ministry at St. Luke’s UMC.
