John Henry Cain

Born in Lyons, Kansas on June 22, 1921, passed away on March 17, 2017. He was a lifelong Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) member and a pastor with the Disciples of Christ. He graduated with a Bachelors of Divinity Degree from Phillips Theological Seminary in Enid, Oklahoma. During his forty years of ministry, he served congregations in Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, and Illinois. While living in Denver, John Henry served for several years on the Board for the Colorado Christian Children's Home (Tennyson Center for Children) and served as President for one year. In his retirement he was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. He coordinated the development of a Habitat for Humanity organization in Decatur, Illinois. He liked to say, "Jesus was a carpenter who became a preacher, I was a preacher who became a carpenter."

John Henry was a devoted husband to his wife of 55 years, Mildred Frances Strean Cain, who preceded him in death. His children cherish the parenting from him and their mother. He taught them the unconditional love for all of God's creation. Everyone who has known John Henry has been touched and blessed by this philosophy of life. He was preceded in death by his father and mother John and Nina Daile Hartford Cain; his brothers Prentice, Richard, and Marion; and his sisters Elizabeth Hart and Mary Alice Phillips. He is survived by his children Tom (Loveta), Jane (Patrick) Newman, Betty Jo (Jim) Smith, and Nancy Cain; grandchildren Robin (Tiffany), John, Josh (Sarah), Emily (Thomas), and Will; great grandchildren Nathaniel, Abraham, Oakley, and Hannah.
