85, passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2013.

Mr. Logan was born in Clay County, Indiana on March 26, 1928 to John and Mary Logan. He graduated from Cloverdale High School in 1945, and then completed a Bachelors Degree in Education and a Masters in Education Administration. On June 11, 1948, he married Hilda "Sadie" Knoll, who survives him.

As a dedicated, gifted, and lifelong educator, Mr. Logan served as teacher and then principal in elementary schools in Bremen, Paragon, Martinsville, and Highland, Indiana. He retired as principal of Mildred Merkley Elementary School in Highland in 1986.

John was a lifetime member of the Freemasons in the Cloverdale Lodge and had attained his 32nddegree. He was a veteran of the US Army and was stationed in Korea ('47-'48). Although he loved golf, woodworking, and fishing, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were his greatest joy. Love of all children was a constant theme in his life.

John is survived and will be greatly missed by his wife of 65 years, Hilda; his five children Brenda Higgins (Woody Hawkins) of Orlando, Kevin Logan (Ginny) of St. Louis, Loralyn Gaither (Bill) of Tucson, Nancy Sonntag (the late Robert) of Carmel, and Ellen Bailey (Chris) of Zionsville; his grandchildren, Beth Barger (Matt), TJ Hoeferlin (Jen), Logan Gaither, Cattin [Gaither] Kraus (Marcus), Ariel [Dunn] Roloff (Jarret), Iris Marie and John Robert Bailey; his great-grandchildren, Jessica and Nick Barger, Liam, Declan, and Killian Hoeferlin; and, last but not least, his little dog, Buttercup.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister and brother, Dorothy Hudson and Robert Logan.

A Celebration of John's life will be held at Crestwood Village West, 230 Welcome Way Blvd, in Indianapolis on Sunday, August 11 at 1:00 PM. (Indianapolis time - EST) Reception to follow: 2:00 - 4:00 PM.
