Julie Gaughan passed peacefully on August 31, 2021.
Julie lived a full life and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her sons, grandchildren, Gaughan relatives and her lifelong friends in the Indianapolis area. She enjoyed playing both Bridge and Euchre and was a patron of the Arts attending Indianapolis Reparatory Theatre productions regularly. Julie was an avid golfer and enjoyed travelling with friends on golfing trips.
In her early years, Julie attended St. Agnes high school in Indianapolis where she was a valedictorian of her graduating class. One of the highlights of this time of her life was receiving a scholarship from actress Frances Farmer. She followed by attending St. Mary of the Woods College achieving a Bachelor of Arts and later got her Master of Fine Arts from Indiana University. Julie was a Speech teacher at Park Tudor and head of the Drama department. During her time at Park Tudor, she led many theater productions which sometimes included her children, Brian and Chris. She was well liked by her students and often referred to as “Lady”.
In addition to her teaching talents, Julie was a gifted artist and created beautiful stained-glass pieces. Many of her works can be found in establishments and homes throughout Carmel and Indianapolis.
As her grandchildren grew, she spent many hours traveling to watch soccer, baseball, basketball, swim meets, football and band events. Often, she was one of the most vocal fans rooting for the teams!
Survivors include her sons, Brian (Lynda) Gaughan and Chris Gaughan; grandchildren, Dillon, Adrienne, Collin, Natalie and Maura Gaughan; and many nieces and nephews that were always close to her heart. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Bernice Johnson.
A Celebration of Life and Memorial will be held at Aaron Ruben Nelson Mortuary, 11411 N. Michigan Rd., on Friday, September 17th from 2:30 – 4:30 PM.
