In Loving Memory: Kay Bennett, 1944 - 2024

Kay Lynn (Collisson) Bennett, age 79, of Carmel, Indiana passed away peacefully at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis on October 4, 2024 with family and friends nearby. She was born in Linton, Indiana, the first child to Willam H. Collisson and Janet I. (Hamersly) Collisson. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her youngest brother John L. Collisson, who passed at the age of 72 on November 23, 2022.

Kay was a 1963 graduate of Linton-Stockton High School, and attended studies at Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana. She then began a career in the travel industry, training and serving as a flight attendant with Ozark Airlines, and later as an agent for corporate and private travel companies in the Indianapolis area. These positions gave her opportunities to travel and explore the world, which she loved to do, everywhere from China, to Turkey, to Turks and Caicos and a special vacation trip to Cancun with her niece Samatha.

After she retired, she worked part-time with the Meijer corporation in Carmel and made many friends and acquaintances there. She also made many lifelong friends while at her Carmel residence, many of whom were of great help to her when she needed it most in the past several months. Very recently, three of Kay’s friends from her flight attendant days came to Carmel for a long overdue reunion which made Kay very happy.

Kay regularly attended services at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church where she found joy and comfort. She participated in many events there over the years, and often volunteered as usher for Sunday services. When unable to travel to the Church on Sundays she would curl up in her favorite Lazy Boy chair and watch the services streamed to her TV.

Kay was married twice in her lifetime with both ending in divorce. She had no children, but her loving Shih Tzu puppy dog Maggie was like a child to her for many years. She is survived by her brother, William Craig Collisson (Sue) of Santa Barbara, California.

Her extended family includes sister-in-law Karen S. (Hagaman) Collisson (widow to John) of Linton, Indiana; niece Samantha Erin (Collisson) Van Scoik of Elkhart, Indiana; nephew Patrick Ian Collisson (Tia) of Washington, Indiana; cousin Gail Doades (Mark) of Washington, Indiana; cousin Alan Hamersly (Cindy) of Noblesville, Indiana; cousin Scott Hamersly (Beverly) of Carmel, Indiana; cousin Linda Miller (Dick) of, Michigan; cousin Janet Neumann of Michigan; cousin Maryanne Kelly of Michigan.

A memorial service will be held at Aaron-Ruben-Nelson Mortuary, 11411 North Michigan Road, on November 13, 2024 at 2 PM. Friends are welcome to visit from 1 PM until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 100 W 86th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46260.
