Laura Jane Ketcham

April 18, 1920 — September 19, 2013

LAURA JANE KETCHAM,
93, died on Thursday, September 19, 2013, at St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital. Born in Kendallville and a longtime resident of Albion, Jane was an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church and the Albion community. She graduated from Kendallville High School at the age of 16 and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Indiana University. She was married to Louis Ketcham on February 14, 1942. She worked as a legal secretary for most of her life, primarily for her husband.

Jane was active in the Albion Study Club, the Progress Club, Tri Kappa, and the United Methodist Women. She was also an avid reader, crafter, quilter, and Scrabble player.

Surviving are her sons, Dr. Robert Ketcham of Fort Wayne and John (Suzanne) Ketcham of Westfield; daughter, Kathleen (Dan) Spiro of Bethesda, MD; brother, Fred (Linda) McWhinney II of Kendallville; grandchildren, Michael (Erica) Ketcham, Dr. Cindi (Mark) McGarvey, Kirstin (Nathan) McMillen, Courtney (Joe) Worley, Ashley Ketcham, Ian Ketcham, Elena Ketcham, Hannah Spiro, and Rebecca Spiro; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents, Carrie (Heltzel) and Fred McWhinney I; infant daughter, Sarah Kathryn; and sister, Mary Cochard.

Jane lived life by her favorite quotation: "Always be a little kinder than necessary." (J. M. Barrie)

Memorial service is 11 AM, Saturday, September 28, at Asbury United Methodist Church, 605 E Main St, Albion. Pastor Bret Frymier will officiate. The family will gather from 10 to the time of the service to meet and greet friends and share memories.
