Lucille Gasser Sullivan, 82, died peacefully in her sleep March 30, 2012. She was born July 15, 1929 in Sayre, Oklahoma, to the late Blanche (Hostetler) and Carl Gasser. Lucille graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in library science. She went on to earn her Master of Divinity from Yale Divinity School in New Haven, Connecticut. While at Yale, she met and married Jerry Moore Sullivan, her husband of 57 years.
Over the years, Lucille was Jerry's advisor and partner in ministry at Franklin Circle Christian Church (Cleveland), First Christian Church (Bowling Green), Boardman Christian Church (Youngstown) and Community Christian Church (North Canton), all in Ohio. Lucille was very active in all three expressions of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), serving on general, regional and local boards and committees. She was also active in ecumenical organizations, especially Interfaith Campus Ministries at Kent State University Stark County, where she was instrumental in the opening of the Campus Preschool and Childcare Center. Lucille was a member of the staff at the Yale Divinity School Library while in seminary, worked as assistant librarian at Hoover High School, North Canton, Ohio and as an engineering librarian at the Hoover Company, also in North Canton.
In retirement, Lucille and Jerry enjoyed several years living at Christmount Christian Assembly in the mountains of North Carolina, before moving to Indianapolis in 2001.
Lucille is survived by her husband, Jerry; daughters Beth Sullivan and Jane Sullivan-Davis; son-in-law George "Bo" Sullivan-Davis; granddaughters Sadie and Cristina Sullivan-Davis; sister Margaret (Maurice) Oakes; brother-in-law Joseph F. (Shirley) Sullivan, Jr., sister-in-law Carol Sullivan of Carmel, Indiana; nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her brother, Carl A. Gasser and her brother-in-law, Richard A. Sullivan.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Allisonville Christian Church, 7709 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the memorial service at 10:00 AM at the church. Internment will take place in New Philadelphia, Ohio.
