Marceline Amy McGurk of Covington, IN, daughter of the late Anton & Augusta Manzagol, passed away on June 9, 2017. She was born in Belgiumtown, Illinois on July 26, 1915. Marceline had one brother, Sherman Manzagol, who is deceased. She graduated from Indiana State Teachers College in Terre Haute with her Bachelor's degree in Education.
While teaching in Kingman in 1940, she was asked by the Covington superintendent of schools to come to Covington to teach fourth grade. Marceline decided to move to Covington, and it is there she met her future husband, Tom McGurk, Sr. They were married in Glasgow, Montana on December 11, 1942 before Tom shipped overseas to Europe with the United States Army. The couple raised their four children in Covington. Marceline is survived by her children, Marceline (Dr. Robert) Dicks of Greenwood, IN, Tom (Jan) McGurk, Jr. of Covington, Fred (Stacey) McGurk of Manhattan Beach, CA, and Jane (Claude) Burgess of Zionsville, IN. Marceline has nine grandchildren, Emily (Rex) Reynolds, Robert (Julie) Dicks, Jr., Drew (Tamiko) McGurk, Kyle (Linda) McGurk, Shannon McGurk, Stephanie McGurk, Nicholas McGurk, Kristin Burgess, and Thomas Burgess; and eight great-grandchildren.
Marceline called Covington home for 75 years and was a member of Covington United Methodist Church. She was involved with Coffenians, Psi Iota Xi, United Methodist Women, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and was a Sunday School teacher.
Marceline was devoted to her family and friends. She will be remembered for her servant's heart, her positive attitude, and for living life to its fullest. Her generosity and thoughtfulness were extended to her family, friends and the community.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Covington United Methodist Church at 12 PM. Charitable donations can be made to the Unrestricted Gifts Fund of the Covington Community Foundation, PO Box 175, Covington, IN 47932, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
