It is with immeasurable sorrow the family of Marjorie J. Ashton announces her passing on Sunday, September 23, 2018 in Carmel, Indiana at age 86. Marjorie was the beloved Mother of Terry Ashton Cahill (Mark) and Grandmother of Kirah Cahill.

Marjorie was born June 20,1932 in Fairlawn, NJ to parents Andrew and Dora Botbyl, who immigrated from the Netherlands with their families as children in 1903. Marjorie grew up in Palatine, NJ with brothers Edward and Donald (both deceased) and sisters Doris (Kutz) and Ruth (Clark - Carl). Several years after graduating from Vineland High School in 1949, Marjorie married and moved to Vineland. Over four decades, she worked in the glass industry as a Class A lathe operator. She loved the challenge of perfecting consistency in production and refining the development of complex scientific glassware apparatus. She enthusiastically honed her craft, working with all types of glass, even mastering techniques with the most difficult quartz glass.

Having limited lessons as a teenager, Marjorie was a natural pianist and played during Sunday services at two churches over the years. As an extension of her creativity, Marjorie designed and crafted candlesticks and bird houses as a hobby. Never without her camera, she enjoyed photography, chronicling family holidays, special events and ordinary days.

To say she loved her pets, a Westie, a Rottweiler and a Maine Coon cat, is an understatement. However, no one was more dear to her than her granddaughter, Kirah, whom she indulged with her time, wisdom, understanding and realized wishes.

Marjorie bought a home in Vineland in 1966 and lived there until 2015 when she moved to Carmel, IN with her daughter and son-in-law. She navigated daunting medical challenges that became hers to bear with strength and great positivity. Marjorie's life-long example of unwavering optimism, determination and belief in God is an enduring gift to her family. Her beaming smile, kindness and soul's strength will forever be remembered. Marjorie filled her family's lives with love and joy.

Funeral Services will be private.

Donations to honor Marjorie Ashton may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Vineland, New Jersey SPCA.
