Mathew Scott Regenstrief

Mathew Scott Regenstrief passed away on Dec. 30, 2024, at the age of 56, in his home in Carmel, IN. Matt was born in Indianapolis on Nov. 18, 1968, and graduated from North Central High School and Indiana University. He was known for his joyful personality among his friends, cousins, and siblings. In his youth, Matt was a decorated athlete. He often said his claim to fame was leading his high school soccer team to the championship, where he fondly—and sometimes frustratingly—recalled being a missed goal away from victory. 

Throughout his life, Matt lived in many cities, found joy in cooking meals for his family, did crossword puzzles daily, and spent time with his only child, Madelyn. He was a beloved father, son, cousin, and uncle. For much of his life, Matt battled mental illness, with moments of both triumph and struggle. He and his family hope sharing his journey and his passing will help reduce the stigma surrounding mental health disorders. In lieu of flowers, the family asks contributions be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Indiana. 

Matt is preceded in death by his father, David, and survived by his daughter, Madelyn Regenstrief; his mother, Pearl; his sisters, Andie (Alan) Friedman and Leigh (Jeffrey) Meltzer; and his numerous nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Jan. 3, 2025, at Aaron-Ruben-Nelson Mortuary, 11411 N. Michigan Road, at 11 a.m. A live- stream will be available. Burial will follow at Beth-El Zedeck North Cemetery. Shiva will be held at the Friedman residence on Friday, Jan. 3, following interment, and Saturday, Jan. 4, 2025, from 6 pm - 8 pm.
