Melvin "Mel" Richard Berman, 86 yrs old, passed away peacefully in his home on August 13, 2023. He was born on October 9, 1936 in Chicago where he resided for the first 55 years of his life. Mel was a graduate of the University of Illinois where he was involved in ROTC and later served as a Corporal in the Army. He began his career as a manufacturers sales rep in Chicago, servicing drugstores of all sizes. Mel moved to Indianapolis in the late 1990 to better utilize his skills and expertise to start his own, highly successful sourcing company. Mel met Jane Hui through a mutual friend in 1999 and they began a courtship that culminated with their marriage in 2002. Mel and Jane shared many interests but perhaps none more then a shared passion for travel and cruising.
Mel was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and recent great-grandfather. He loved his family, travel, reading, history, the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzle, and a good dim sum meal. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Jane; children, Dana Sanders (George), Jodi Berman-Schwam (Jeffrey Schwam) and Jay Berman (Michele); 7 grandchildren, Jordan Sanders (Jessica Brody), Benjamin Sanders, Rebecca Sanders, Abby Graf (Reily), Sam Berman, Ellie Berman, and Joshua Schwam; and great-grandsons, Ethan Brody-Sanders and Louie Graf.
