Michael F. McCoy

July 21, 1944 — March 10, 2022

Michael F McCoy, known to Linda as Mikey, passed away on March 10, 2022. Mike was born in the small town of Milan, Indiana to Mac and Gladys McCoy, who preceded him in death, and then shortly after moved to Madison where he met Linda, his high school sweetheart. She followed him to Indiana University, where he was a member of the Marching hundred.  They were married while Linda was a senior in college and Mike was in his first year of the IU MBA program. They recently celebrated 56 years of marriage.   Mike spent the majority of his career in insurance and equipment leasing and supporting his wife in her career.

Mike was a long time member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, joining in 1969. He and Linda both were regular attendees and volunteers until the time when she joined the staff as an Associate Pastor in 1982. Mike always supported Linda and St. Luke’s in any way he could. He and Erin would often be found in the Fellowship Hall and later the Great Hall setting up the coffee and donuts for the Sunday services. He even combined his love of cooking and his love of St. Luke’s by helping to get the church kitchen shipshape as well as grilling hundreds of pieces of chicken each year for the Shepherding picnic. Mike then continued to support Linda by leading the technology team at The Garden which she started in 1995 up to her retirement in 2015.

Mike always said that one of the happiest days of his life was when his daughter, Erin, arrived followed by the birth of his granddaughter, Madeline. He particularly enjoyed traveling around the world especially working with Swiss Timing at many Olympic style events. He also loved to cook. Mike could often be found in the kitchen every Sunday night cooking up something special for his family and friends.

Mike will be remembered for his wonderful smile and infectious laugh. There was rarely a time when he didn’t have a big smile on his face even towards the end when he wasn’t feeling his best. Mike loved people. He could talk to anyone about anything, and he was genuinely interested in what others had to say.

Mike was 77 years old and is survived by his wife, Linda; daughter, Erin (Lee) Roling; and granddaughter, Madeline Swike. He was preceded in death by his brother, Dave.
