Michael David Phillips

Michael David Phillips,
former resident of Shelbyville, passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2013, in Indianapolis.

Born July 31, 1958, in Nuremberg, Germany, he was the son of David D. and Edith S. (Snyder) Phillips. He married Bambie Taylor Phillips, a graduate of North Decatur High School in Greensburg, Indiana, on May 31, 1985. Michael, a resident of Martinsville, Ohio, at the time of his death, was a 1976 graduate of Shelbyville High School. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Botany from Butler University and his Masters of Divinity degree from Christian Theological Seminary, both in Indianapolis.

He served in the Indiana National Guard on both active and reserve duty for a number of years and as head pastor of churches in Berwick, Pennsylvania, and Washington Courthouse, Ohio. He was completing studies towards a doctorate degree in education.

Surviving Michael are his loving wife, Bambie Phillips; children, Christina Stephens of Morristown and David Pierce of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Taylor Stevens and Chelsey Stephens; mother, Edith Phillips of Carmel; and sisters, Sharon (Phillips) Miller of Shelbyville and Leslie (Phillips) Rex of Carmel. Nieces and nephews are Rebecca (Keith) Sullivan, Phillip Keith and Patrick Keith, all of Shelby County, and Lindsay Van Natta of Dunedin, Florida, Megan Van Natta of Chicago, Illinois, Russell Van Natta of Anderson, Indiana, and Kevin Rex of Carmel. Michael's father preceded him in death.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
