Michelle was a devoted wife and mother, she looked out for her family until her very last breath. She never ran out of ideas to improve the household bottom line, yet she was a stickler for staying within the household budget. She taught herself to prepare taxes and she would often use her Chicago-seasoned and hardnosed negotiating skills to pinch a few pennies. She studied every line of each credit and bank statement, scrutinized every billing statement, and never considered any saving too small to be worth the effort. In her last few days she arranged for others to look after the household during her time of illness and made sure financial documents were in order.
Michelle is survived by her husband of nearly 29 years, Lew Truex, four children (Bethany Lynne Truex, Nicholas Lee Truex, Alexandria Grace Truex, and Gabriel David Truex) and 3 step children (Jennifer LeAnn Truex, Andrew Jeffrey (Mary) Truex, and Christopher Alan Truex). She was preceded by her mother, Lucille Doty.
Michelle was born in Chicago and graduated from Thornton High School in Harvey Illinois. She attended Western University in Macomb, Illinois and graduated from the University of Illinois with a bachelor's degree in communication. Upon graduation, she worked in advertising and as a model in downtown Chicago. She later took a position in sales for AT&T and was relocated to Indianapolis. Michelle also worked for Canon and for PC Solutions of Indianapolis.
Michelle left the business world to raise a family after Nicholas, her second child, was born. She studied Christian Financial Concepts through Larry Burkett and became a CFC counselor. She had unwavering faith that the family could give to the church and meet all needs through simple living and applying biblical financial principles. Michelle was a student of the Bible and therefore sought to teach Biblical principles to her children. Michelle was also a prolific reader, sometimes devouring a couple books a week. She was also a trained mediator through Ken Sande's Peacemaker Ministries, and had a heart to help others reconcile their broken relationships.
Michelle was passionate for culture and music, which connected her to her husband, Lewis Truex. Michelle was in charge of a singles Christian coffeehouse at East 91st Street Christian Church when they met. Lew's experience playing at most coffeehouses in Central Indiana and being a member of a local Christian jazz/funk band brought them initially together as he volunteered to contact musicians he knew to play for their coffeehouse. Their relationship grew from that partnership. Her passion for music led to a vision that all her children would be musicians. Her interest in culture drew her to travel and explore Shabbat, Irish festivals, and Middle Eastern festivals. Michelle played guitar, mountain dulcimer, whistle, and recently sang in the choir at King of Glory Church. She led music for youth and children's ministries at various times either by herself or with her husband, Lew. Michelle and Lew performed together at music festivals and other events.
Michelle enjoyed outdoor activities such as gardening, camping, skiing, swimming, and kayaking with her family. As a teenager, she was proud to have canoed the Boundary Waters with a group of girls at around the age of 15. When Michelle was young, she participated in floral competitions and since became passionate about flower gardening. She filled the backyard at the Truex house full of roses, lilacs, tulips, and daffodils that bloomed throughout the summer. Furthermore, she was the executive coordinator for all of the Truex family adventures such as camping and skiing, which really brought the family together.
The Truex family has been overwhelmed by the love that God has showered on us through family, friends, coworkers, and people we have never met. For those who prayed for a miraculous healing, your prayers have been answered. Michelle will get a brand new perfect body. The family thanks the many servants at St Vincent's Hospital and at the St Vincent Hospice. They provided comfort for Michelle and the family during her stay there. The family would also like to thank their trusted friend and Michelle's primary care physician, Dr. Paul Hamori. He was constantly available to Michelle and to the family for advice and comfort.
