Mike Ayres

James "Mike" Michael Ayres, 69, of Indianapolis, passed away April 1, 2017. He was born, March 17, 1948 to Robert and Helen Ayres of Frankfort, IN. Mike graduated from Butler University earning both his Bachelor's and Master's degree. He was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. Mike served in the United States Navy from 1967 until 1971, spending most of his time at the South Pole.

Mike spent 42 years working as an educator at Park Tudor School as well as The Orchard School. He devoted his time selflessly to ensure that every student left his class, advising meeting, or school with a deeper understanding of who they were not only as a student but as a person. Through a kind heart, contagious humor and ability to allow kids to be kids, Mike was able to help every student see his or her own potential and grow it. The impact that he had on students and families will be carried on for generations to come, but the impact that students had on him will be remembered through the detailed stories he shared.

Mike was not only a great educator but he was also a devoted family man. He was a loving husband, a wonderful father to two sons and the world's greatest grandpa. He is survived by his loving wife, Karen Ayres; sons, Oliver (Emily) Ayres and Adam (Natalie) Ayres; grandson, Logan Ayres; brothers, Bill, John and Chris Ayres; and sister, Carol Morris.

A Celebration of Life for Mike Ayres will be held at the Orchard School, Sunday May 7th. The celebration will begin with a few speakers and a slideshow from 1 - 2 PM. People are also welcome to stay or arrive after the first hour to gather with family and friends to pay respects and exchange memories. The celebration will end around 4 PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation for the continued education of children in Mike's name to Park Tudor or The Orchard School.
