Muktabai Ramchandra Vichare
82, of Carmel, passed away suddenly on March 14, 2019. She was born in Janjira, Maharashtra India to the late Ramchandra and Gopi Mankar. She moved to the U.S. in 1985 after the birth of her first grandchild.
Muktabai loved being a grandmother ("Ajee"). She is remembered by her family as being a devoted mother and grandmother to not only her family, but also was beloved by so many others within the greater Indian and Marathi community of Indianapolis. She loved gardening, taking long walks and cooking. She would often cook grand meals for many Indian occasions. She loved her family, friends and especially children. She was everyone's Ajee.
She is survived by her sons, Anil (Rita) Vichare and Sanjay (Minal) Vichare; grandchildren, Anuja (Shawn) Petruniw, Anisha (Tyler Smith) Vichare, and Hrishikesh Vichare; sisters, Shakuntala (Vinayak) Chavan and Lata (Pandurang) Deshmukh; brother, Sunil (Brinda) Mankar; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ramchandra Vichare; sister, Malti Kate; brothers, Sundar Mankar, Shankar Mankar, and Sadanand Mankar.
Memorial contributions may be made to Thomas Gregg Neighborhood School, 2302 E. Michigan St. Indianapolis, IN 46201. Muktabai's granddaughter, Anuja, is one of the leaders of Thomas Gregg, which predominately serves students grades PK-6th from low-income families on the Near Eastside of Indianapolis. Contributions will go towards the Student Support fund for clothing assistance, classroom supplies, field trips and service learning projects.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, March 18, 2019 at 3 P.M. Visitation will be held at 1 P.M. until 2:30 P.M.
