Nelson Ira "Sonny" Dunitz
Beloved husband, father, step-father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, passed away suddenly on June 6, 2018 at the age of 84, in Indianapolis.
Sonny was a graduate of De Paul University and De Paul Law School. He practiced law in Chicago for 50 years, litigating several high-profile cases.
Sonny was active in Chicago Democratic politics and was a strong supporter of the Chicago Jewish community. He was a member of several Chicagoland synagogues, including North Shore Congregation and Beth Shalom. He moved with his wife to Indianapolis in 2011 and quickly made a home for himself. He was a member of Congregation Beth-El Zedeck, a local R.O.M.E.O group and a vibrant member of two monthly poker games as well as Jewish Lawyers.
Sonny is survived by his wife, Serane Blatt Dunitz; children, Michael (Shayna) Dunitz and Juli Lynne Dunitz Keller; brother, Allen (Gloria) Dunitz; sister, Elaine (Carl) Lemler; step-children, David (Pamela) Blatt, Lawrence (Nicole) Blatt and Michael (Robert Paulson) Blatt; nieces, Dawn (Robert Rosen) Drewganis and Tracey Dunitz; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild, and his faithful companion, Izzy.
Sonny was preceded in death by his wife, Mimi Dunitz; and his son, Andrew.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Aaron-Ruben-Nelson Mortuary, 11411 N. Michigan Road, Zionsville, IN 46077.
