Nirmala Desaiah Durisala was born in Wyra, Telangana, in Southern India on May 21st, 1946, to Nagaiah and Rathamma Kommana. She had two brothers (Krishna Rao and Durga Prasad) and three sisters (Saroja, Leela, and Pramila). On June 14th, 1964, Nirmala married the love of her life, Desaiah. From the moment they met, they were best friends and partners, and they spent the rest of their lives completely devoted to each other. A few years after they were married, their family was made complete by the birth of their son, Venkata Hanumantha Rao. In 1973, Nirmala and her family moved to the United States, and she later became a citizen of her adopted country. In 2002, she received her greatest gift, a beautiful granddaughter named Akhila.
Nirmala was known for her deep belief in God, compassion, and kindness. Everyone fortunate enough to meet her became a friend. And those friends quickly became her family. She believed in the importance of charity, and had a special place in her heart for organizations that aided children in need. Her most cherished possession was a handwritten letter from St. Mother Teresa that praised her for her good works.
Nirmala is survived by her husband, Desaiah; son, Venkata; and granddaughter, Akhila.
A prayer service will be held for Nirmala on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at ARN Funeral and Cremation Services, 11411 North Michigan Road, Zionsville, IN 46077, from 9:30-12:30 PM.
