Norma Jean Franklin was born to Irvin and Ada Nash Campbell on December 11, 1928 in Jeffersonville, Indiana. She married Robert Franklin on the night of her senior prom, May 20, 1949. The Franklins lived in various Midwest cities but have stayed for over fifty years in Indianapolis. Norma had had many passions and interests, including organic gardening, upholstering, needlework, golf, bowling, birds, reading, bridge clubs, and entertaining. She was an early Colts season-ticket holder and an avid IU basketball fan.
Norma put a lot of energy into anything she did, which allowed her to rise from a clerical position to a management position in her career in insurance claims work. Her dedication to everything she did served her children (and their future employers) well! She could work hard at the office then come home to re-upholster a couch or take her children and their friends to visit a little-known nature sanctuary. She remained as active in retirement as she was when she worked. Norma attended a constant myriad of activities and events of her grandchildren and encouraged and supported them in every way she could. For many happy retirement years, she traveled with Bob on civil war history trips and golf trips with friends. Norma brooked no nonsense from anyone she felt was doing wrong, but she had extraordinary generosity of time, thoughtfulness and gifts for her family and friends.
Norma is survived by her husband, who devoted his life to her care during her illness. She leaves behind three children, Brenda (Mark) Rodeheffer, Carol (Robert) Aubuchon and Robert (Sharon) Franklin; and five grandchildren, James (Emily) Rodeheffer, Robert (Ashley) Rodeheffer, Laura Rodeheffer (fiance, Daniel Kent), Katherine (Zach) Turner, and Michael Franklin. Norma's sister, Betty Lou (Joseph) Duplessis and brother, Buford (Joan) Campbell also mourn her. She continues to be remembered by loving nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren and friends.
A celebration of Norma's life will be held at 11 AM on April 12, 2014 at First Friends Meeting, 3030 Kessler Blvd, E. Dr, Indianapolis, Indiana. Calling will be held from 10 AM until the time of the service.
Donations may be made in Norma's honor to the First Friends Meditational Woods; a tree will be named in her memory.
The family thanks St. Vincent's Hospice staff for the care they gave to Norma and her family in the last year of her life. On-line condolences may be left at www.arnmortuary.com.
