Patricia "Pat" Louise Sheehan 78, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 8, 2023 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born in Indianapolis to the late Edward and Laura Sheehan on August 21, 1945.
Pat attended Little Flower Catholic School and graduated from Scecina Memorial High School in 1963. Pat earned her Bachelors of Nursing Science from Indiana University in 1969. Pat studied Community Mental Health Nursing at Indiana University and received her Masters of Science in Nursing in 1979. She received her Doctorate of Nursing Science in 1989. She wrote and published her dissertation on The Effect of Combat Trauma on Intimate Relationships. She went on to earn a second Doctorate from Indiana University and wrote her dissertation on Religion and Sexuality.
Pat worked at the Veterans Administration for 27 years. She was the Coordinator of the Chemical Dependency Unit’s Family Program and the Team Leader of the Stress Management Trainers. She presented workshops on intimacy, communication and various other healing strategies throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Russia. Pat started a private counseling practice after retiring from the Veterans Administration. She began practicing Ipsalu Tantra Kriya Yoga. She became a certified instructor and went on to teach others to instruct various levels of Ipsalu Tantra Kriya Yoga.
Pat’s passion was helping others and teaching healing techniques. She truly loved her work with veterans and their families. Pat was passionate with all she took on. Spirituality was a centerpiece in her life. She was very involved with her school mates at Little Flower and Scecina Memorial. She assisted with reunions and had monthly get-togethers with her classmates. She became an associate nun with the Sisters of St. Francis in Oldenburg, Indiana. Pat loved spending time with her grandchildren at the St. Francis farm feeding the farm animals and enjoying nature. In another spiritual venture, she became a priestess with the appropriate name of “Passion”.
Pat adored her family. She enjoyed monthly family dinners and cookouts. Pat’s favorite hobby was to travel. She visited all the continents with the exception of Antarctica. Pat was very proud of her Irish Heritage. She visited Ireland several times and made it possible for most her family members to see this beautiful country. She loved to provide unforgettable experiences to her loved ones.
Pat left a lasting impression on all that knew her. The world is a better place because of her compassion and wisdom.
She is survived by her daughter, Dawn Rose (Mark); grandchildren, Patrick Rose, Griffin Stucker, and Sydney Johnson (Austin); and her sister, Susan Oldham (Roger). Pat was preceded in death by her beloved sons, Gary and Gregory Stucker.
