Raymond Earl Mayer

May 21, 1970 — July 27, 2017

Raymond Earl Mayer passed away on July 27th, 2017 at the age of 47 years old. Raymond was born on May 21st, 1970 to Edward Mayer, who preceded him in death, and Margaret Gibbs Glover in Greencastle, IN. He grew up right on the edge of DePauw University's campus with his siblings Julie Mayer LaMar and Robert Mayer. He was able to grow up around the world, traveling from place to place, something he taught his daughter, Kali Marie Mayer, to aspire to do as much as possible.

Ray loved learning about many things especially space, philosophy, and history. Thanks to his grandmother's handwritten recipes he fell in love with cooking. He clocked thirty plus years in the kitchen of some of Indy's best restaurants : The Friendly Tavern and Daddy Jacks. He thoroughly enjoyed cooking meals especially for his mother Margie who is a fan of any meal he made. Besides cooking, one of his biggest hobbies was listening to music. He loved the classics: Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, and any Blues music you could throw at him he loved and taught many around him to appreciate as he did. He was adamant that his daughter would never become a fan of rap music and would know what real music was.

Ray had a calm soul that never panicked (even while teaching his daughter to drive). He always remained steady. He was a quiet observer in a noisy world. He was a reliable chauffeur from Pre-K to high school taking his daughter to gymnastics practice every day, while telling her stories about the world's history as if he was there for all of it.

Ray will be remembered by his family: his mother, Margaret Glover; brother, Robert Mayer; sister, Julie Mayer LaMar; his five nephews; Lis Rasnake-Mayer and their adored daughter Kali Marie Mayer.

Ray's biggest accomplishment was being Kalio's daddio; it was what he was most proud. She thanks him for watching the same episodes of Scooby Doo for years, and teaching her how to live the liberal life, and teaching her more about Colt's football than any teenage girl should know.

Ray Mayer lived quietly, loved stoically, all the while remaining unconditionally kind.
