Richard "Dick" Clifton

On a Monday in late October, 1922, in the quiet town of Van Wert, Ohio, Richard (Dick) Clifton, made his welcome known to his parents Ruth and Clayton Clifton. On a Wednesday, the first day of the New Year 2014 after spending Christmas Day with his entire family at his side, his body gave in to natural causes that had plagued him for 8 months and he quietly passed away.
Dick lived and was schooled in Van Wert until World War II when he enlisted in the U.S.Army serving as a rifle expert with Battery C, 865th anti-aircraft automatic weapons Battalion, Pacific Theater from January 1943 to December 1945.
After the war, he enrolled in Bowling Green University and completed his bachelor's degree in accounting. He was soon employed by Calvert Fire Insurance (Commercial Credit) as a claim's adjuster and after training was sent to Springfield, Illinois where he met, fell in love and married a young farm girl named Donna Larson from Elkhart, Illinois, who was living and working in Springfield.
Dick and Donna were married a total of 62 years at the time of his death. They moved from Springfield to Evansville and then to Indianapolis where he became employed with Allstate Insurance Company until his retirement in 1990.
He is survived by his wife, Donna, Nancy Lilly (Marie Odile Froment), David (Joan), granddaughters Emily, Lillian and Eleanor and his beloved cat, Mau REECE. Of Scottish and English descent, Dick was an avid golfer. There will be no visitation or open local services. Private family services will be held for Dick, at a later date, in Scotland.
Memorials can be made to the Humane Society of your choice or to I Can, a program where service dogs are trained by inmates and then become useful helpers to their incapacitated owners.
