Richard L. Morgan

January 1, 1970 — January 1, 1970

Indianapolis

On Thursday, March 11th, 2021, Richard Morgan, a loving husband, son, brother, father, and grandfather passed away at the age of 88.

Richard was born on October 6th, 1932 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Marion Etta and Sam Morgan. He was a first-generation college graduate who paid his way through Butler's pharmacy school. Along with his brother, Harry Morgan, the two created Morgan Pharmacies and raised their children down the street from each other. He viewed it as one of life's greatest privileges to have had a brother for a business partner as well as a best friend.

He also had the good fortune of attending Shortridge High School where he met his future wife, Miriam. The two lifelong companions met when they were only 15 and had been together ever since. After raising four kids and retiring, the two spent their time traveling the world and watching joyfully as their family grew. And laughing. There was always plenty of laughter.

Richard enjoyed fresh ground coffee and March Madness -- neither of which came close to his love for being a grandpa: there wasn't a macaroni necklace in the world he wouldn't wear proudly. Or a school recital he wouldn't rave about as if it had opened on Broadway. Or a bar / bat mitzvah he didn't watch with more than just unconditional love but also unconditional pride.

His grandkids hung the moon, and this was not open for debate.

It is difficult in a few paragraphs to describe the man who meant so much to both his family and his community. To describe his wit, his charm, and his quiet faith; Or his smirking laugh and sense of humor.

And it is simply impossible to explain his influence on the people who knew him; how much fun we had and how differently we see the world because of him.

It does seem fitting though that moments after he passed, dark clouds covered up the sky and it rained for hours.

Richard was preceded in death by his brother, Harry, and his parents, Marion Etta and Sam Morgan. He is survived by his wife, Miriam, his four children, Scott, Debbie, Barbie and Linda, as well as his 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. They are incredibly thankful to both the staff at St. Vincent’s and his caretakers for their help.

A private, graveside service was held on Sunday, March 13th at Beth-El Zedeck. In place of flowers, please send donations to The Harry and Shirley Morgan fund at the JCC, https://jccindy.org/donate-3/.
