Indianapolis, IN - Robert Globerman, 87, passed away Thursday, November 3, 2016 at home in Morningside of College Park.
He leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Regina, his daughter, Whitney Murray, her husband John and three grandchildren-Bradley, Jason, and Paige. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Bessie and his sisters, Ruth and Mildred.
Born in Ossining, NY, Bob was raised in the family hotel/restaurant business, the well-known Depot Square. He graduated from Ossining High School in 1945, at the age of 16. Bob received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Syracuse University in 1949. He worked as a Commercial Artist in New York City before receiving his Master's Degree in Education from Columbia University. Bob returned to the Ossining School District where he taught Art and Art History, eventually becoming head of the art department at Ossining High School. Bob was also class advisor to the class of 1961, where he wrote the play and music for their senior production, which he also directed. He appeared in many faculty/student productions and was also active in community theatre. During his tenure there he was awarded a Fulbright Grant to Israel and received the Smith Mundt Award.
Prior to retiring from Ossining High School in 1983, Bob became an adjunct professor of Art and Art History at Marymount College in Tarrytown, NY. He also lectured all over Westchester County, NY which lead to his becoming a tour leader of art history-based trips. Bob eventually built his own tour business, known as Globtrottours, Inc., and traveled all over the world.
Throughout his life, Bob had a passion for the arts, visiting museums, historical landmarks, and, most recently, was a season-ticket holder for both the Carmel Symphony Orchestra and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. He received great enjoyment from regularly attending his grandchildren's theatrical and musical events. Bob was an avid reader and loved completing the Sunday New York Times Crossword Puzzle, in ink.
Bob has continued to contribute, after life, by donating his body to science in order to further advance medical research. Instead of a traditional funeral, a Memorial/Celebration of Life service will be held Sunday, November 13, 2016 at Morningside of College Park 8810 Colby Blvd. Indianapolis, IN at 2pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The American Cancer Society and/or The American Heart Association.
