Robert Edward Peale, 87, passed away peacefully in Carmel, IN on October 14, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 5, 1930 to Harry and Flora Peale in Indianapolis.
Bob is survived by his wife Beverly (nee Dickinson), daughters Tammy Falender (Bob) and Missy Arnold (Mike), son Steve (Melissa), and grandchildren Kaitlyn Peale, Hannah Peale, Emma McGowan (Shawn), Ashley Falender, Zachary Falender, Max Arnold and Bo Arnold. Beverly and Bob were married at Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation in 1959 and have been members ever since.
A kind and modest man, Bob will be remembered for his sense of humor, ingenuity and love for his family. He touched many people through the years as an educator and business owner.
Bob graduated from Manual High School in 1948 and received a BS in Mechanical Engineering (1952) and MS in Industrial Engineering (1953) from Purdue University. Upon graduation, he worked at Allison Transmission in Indianapolis and holds several patents.
In 1963, he joined Purdue University in Indianapolis as a lecturer and eventually became full professor and chairman of the Department of Manufacturing Technology at IUPUI. Bob won several teaching awards during his career, and the Robert E. Peale Award for the Outstanding Baccalaureate Degree Student in Mechanical Engineering Technology was established at his retirement in 1992.
Bob served as a first lieutenant in the United States Air Force reserves, receiving an honorable discharge in 1966.
Upon his retirement, Bob began working alongside Beverly at Peale's Theatrical store, which had originally been established by his parents as a department store in south Indianapolis. The store closed in 2017 after nearly 60 years in business.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 17, at 2pm at Aaron-Rubens-Nelson Mortuary, 14111 Michigan Road, Zionsville, IN 46077. Burial will follow at IHC North Cemetery. Friends may leave a memory or message of condolence by visiting the online obituary at www.arnmortuary.com.
