April 28, 1921 — April 28, 2018

Robert O. Pike

Preparing to "go home", Robert Owen Pike passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on the morning of April 28, 2018, his 97th birthday.

He was born April 28, 1921, the son of Louis A. and Ruth E. Stacey Pike.

Robert was a graduate of Shortridge High School and attended courses at Franklin University, Indiana University, and Butler University. He served in the Army for four years during World War II, separating in 1945 as a Staff Sergeant. He was employed for many years as a Traffic Manager with Bobbs Merrill Publishing in Indianapolis before retiring at the age of 62.

Following retirement, he worked tirelessly in his yard and volunteered for many years at food banks, the Indiana Blood Center, and at East 91st Street Christian Church, where he was a member.

His wife Mary E. Pike; former wife, Anna M. Pike; and his two brothers, George Albert Pike and John Louis Pike, preceded him in death.

Those surviving include his daughters, Sandra L. Hardwick, Karen S. (Kevin) Haase, Virginia L. Pike, and son, Dr. James D. (Janice) Pike; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

His family wishes to express their deep appreciation for the care provided by Kindred Hospice and multiple home care providers. Special thanks to next-door neighbors, JR, Brandy, Jasmine and Halle Shelt and Pastor John Samples.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to East 91st Street Christian Church or a local charity of choice.
