Robert K. Seigel
of Indianapolis, IN passed away peacefully on May 10, 2016. He was born to Herman Seigel and Myrtle (Kalb) Seigel in Auburn, IN on January 25, 1933. Bob and his three brothers, Herman, Richard and James grew up in Auburn. He attended Auburn High School where he played guard for the basketball team and ran the mile for the track team. He also played the clarinet. After graduation, he attended Purdue University and graduated with honors in 1954. That same year, he married Marilyn R. Smith of Payne, OH and remained her devoted husband for 56 years until her passing.
He began his teaching career in Angola before accepting a position at North Central High School and moving his wife and two sons to Indianapolis. He enrolled in Butler University and received his master's degree in 1960. With the exception of two years at DeKalb H.S. in Auburn, Bob spent the next 40 years at North Central teaching English Lit, American Lit, composition, drama and debate. He was very popular with, and often beloved by, the thousands of students whose lives he touched and changed over the course of his career. Many years after they graduated, a great many people still have very fond memories of their high school English teacher.
Bob is survived by his sons, Greg (Diane) Seigel and Brian Seigel; grandson, Jackson Seigel; and brothers, Richard Seigel and James Seigel. Bob was a great man who we loved and respected. We will miss him.
