Roger Lee Bair

December 22, 1942 — March 26, 2025

For those attending the graveside funeral, please meet at the 34th and Boulevard gate of Crown Hill for a procession into the cemetery.

Roger was born on December 22, 1942, to Regina Pearl and James Lewis Bair. He was the third oldest child in a family of five boys and four girls. When Roger was four years old, the family relocated from Ferndale, Michigan, to Albion, Indiana. After the 4th grade, Roger and his family moved to Indianapolis, where Roger attended grade school and graduated from Arsenal Technical High School.

At the age of 17, Roger enlisted in the Air Force, where he was a Morris Code translator, translating what was being said by the Chinese. Roger's career in the Air Force took him to Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas for basic training. He then spent time in Keesler Air Base, Biloxi, Mississippi, and bases in Okinawa (Anna Point); DaNang, Vietnam, Altus Air Base, Oklahoma; Bunker Hill Air Base, Indiana; and then to the Pentagon. After serving 7 years, Roger left the Air Force, returning to Indianapolis.

Roger worked at Baileys Beauty Supply as an Assistant Manager for a year before embarking on a career in Law Enforcement. In May of 1968, Roger joined the Indianapolis Police Department. There his assignment took him to street patrol, training academy, and their communications center. During his time with IPD, Roger was elected President of the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 86, and held that position for 5 years. One of his noted actions was the parking of patrol cars around the City County Building in protest of Mayor Bill Hudnut's action to discontinue the take home car policy. After 21 years of service at IPD, Roger went to work as a Criminal Investigator for the Indiana Department of Revenue.

Roger was very fortunate to have two wonderful children, Brian Lee and Allison Carol, and two beautiful grandkids, Quentin and Mason. Roger married his lifetime partner, Nancie, in August of 1988.

Roger is survived by his loving wife, Nancie Sacks Bair; daughter, Allison (James) Carol; grandchildren, Quentin Emilio and Mason Eli; and siblings, Carol Keifer, Don (Susan) Bair, James Bair, Susan Cauley, and Debi (Ken) Crane.
