Roland “Bud” Simpson Snider, 85, Indianapolis, passed away the afternoon of Oct 17th, 2022. He was born on May 30th, 1937, in Abilene, Texas to the late Leslie and George Porter Snider.
Roland graduated from high school in Huntington, Indiana, then earned his undergraduate degree from Indiana University, and his doctorate degree in medicine from Indiana University. He met his wife Ilene, a nurse at Detroit Receiving Hospital, where he was completing his residency. After marrying in January of 1964, Ilene and Roland moved to Winona Lake, Indiana. On September 14th, he opened his medical practice and became one of Warsaw Indiana’s family physicians, an occupation he dearly loved and to which he was fully dedicated for over 40 years.
Roland will be deeply missed by his family, colleagues, and many friends. He was known for his generosity, willingness to always help those in need, and his sincerity. Ever a realist, he practiced an optimistic and calm attitude towards all experiences life offered him, while maintaining his healthy sense of humor. Roland’s quick wit and many “zingers” will be missed at the dinner table.
In addition to his love for medicine, “Buddly” enjoyed racquetball, tennis, reading historical books, trading stocks, snow-skiing (“before Hollywood discovered Snowmass”), his beloved dogs, and constantly learning. He cherished time with his family: simply hanging out on the back porch, Sunday night dinners, or watching “Columbo” with them. Roland welcomed all to his home and was very fond of his children’s friends being around the house.
As Roland’s Christian faith was a significant part of his life, we are confident he is now at peace, again with his beloved wife, companion, and best friend, Ilene.
Roland is survived by his son, David Snider (Julie) of Indianapolis; daughter, Annie Watson (Brian) of Greenwood; grandchildren, Diane, Emily, Noelle, and Nicholas; granddaughter-in-law, Sarah (Nicholas); and his step-grandchildren, Drew, Eve, John, Courtney, Megan, & Drew, lovingly known as “Poppy.”
Roland is preceded in death by his brother, Donald Snider.
A memorial service will be held at Aaron Ruben Nelson Mortuary, 11411 North Michigan Road, on Monday, October 24th at 11 AM. Friends are welcome to visit from 10 AM until the time of the service.
