Ruth Adele Levin Chernin,
92 of Indianapolis, passed away April 4, 2016. She was born in Terre Haute on October 31, 1923 to Leon and Adelaide Kussel Levin. After earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from Purdue University, Ruth worked with her husband, Sam, in their wholesale import business, Kipp Brothers. She was also a wonderful mother, raising two children; a loyal, dedicated friend; and an animal lover. Ruth was generous in her giving to the Jewish Welfare Federation, Humane Society and Nature Conservancy. She was a longtime member of Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation.
Ruth was preceded in death in 2007 by her husband of 60 years, Samuel Chernin. She is survived by her children, David (Angela) Chernin and Deborah Galvin; grandchildren, Anna (Shean) Conlon, Sarah (Michael Applegate) Galvin, and Joseph Galvin; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at A.R.N. Funeral & Cremation Services, 11411 N. Michigan Rd., on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at 10 AM with a reception immediately following. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society, Jewish Welfare Federation, or Second Helpings food bank.
