Ruth Cohen was born in Indianapolis on March 7, 1935, and attended Manual High School and Butler University.
Ruth met her husband Julius as both were quite active on the Indianapolis ballroom dancing scene. They were both accomplished dancers and claimed several trophies. They were married in 1958. Ruth had many career paths, including being a dance instructor, flight attendant, dental hygienist, bank teller, paralegal, and real estate agent. She always wanted to have many different experiences in life, a goal which she clearly accomplished.
Ruth was an avid traveler who loved lengthy cruises and tropical vacations. Her favorite destinations included Hawaii, the Caribbean, and Mexico. However, she also loved colder climates like Alaska and Canada. As a nature lover, she frequently visited state and national parks.
Ruth’s favorite activity of all was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who were the light of her life, and could do no wrong in her adoring eyes. Her beloved animals came in a close second.
Ruth’s husband, Julius, passed away in 2001, and her much-beloved son, Arlon, passed away in 2016. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Richelle (Rick) Cohen Mossler; grandchildren, Lia, Matt, and Jess; and sister, Katy Ray.
Services will be held at Aaron-Ruben-Nelson Mortuary, 11411 N. Michigan Road, Zionsville, on Thursday, June 27, at 4:00 p.m. Friends are welcome to join the family immediately following the memorial service at the Mossler residence, 3316 Walnut Creek Drive North, for shiva.
Donations may be made to Down Syndrome Indiana or IndyHumane.
