Ruth Eleanor Phillips Rice Jackson
85, died Thursday, February 7, 2013 in Indianapolis, IN. She was born October 28, 1927, to Melville and Margaret Phillips in Marion, IN. The family moved to Indianapolis where Ruth graduated from Shortridge High School. She received her B.S. from William Woods College, Fulton, Missouri, in 1947, where she served as President of her Junior Class and President of Atkinson Hall her senior year. She was privileged to be present at Westminster College, Fulton, Missouri, when Winston Churchill made his famous "Behind the Iron Curtain" speech for the first time with President Harry Truman presenting him.
She is survived by her husband of forty years, Jack F. Jackson; daughter, Shannon (Rodger) Seymour; sons, Rex, Brad and Reed Rice; stepson, Dan (Sue) Jackson; stepdaughter, Dee Jackson; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; nieces, Marsha Reynolds and Diane Kent. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, E.A. Phillips.
Ruth was a secretary for Indiana Girls School and Indiana Bell. She was an avid reader, gardener, lover of nature's beauty and enjoyed life greatly. She was a long time member of North United Methodist Church and active in the Mid-North Shepherd's Center until Alzheimer's overtook her.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2013, at North United Methodist Church, 11 a.m. Arrangements entrusted to A.RN. Cremation Services.
