Mrs. Ruth I. Qualkinbush Tomlinson,
92, passed away peacefully in her sleep Saturday, December 13, 2014 at the Zionsville Meadows Long Term Care facility in Zionsville, IN. Mrs. Tomlinson was born June 17, 1922 in French Lick, IN. She was the daughter of Harry Benton and Hattie Mae (Self) Qualkinbush. She was a 1941 graduate of French Lick High School. She married Farrell G. Tomlinson on March 3, 1946, and he preceded her in death February 12, 1984.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by brothers Howard Qualkinbush, Blaine Qualkenbush, Harry Grant (Fuzz) Qualkenbush, and a half-brother, Odes Combs.
Ruth was a very creative and talented woman. She loved to sing and play the guitar. She also loved gardening, landscaping, sewing, and researching genealogy to mention a few. Primarily a homemaker, she was also a dress maker and tailor. She worked at the RCA factory in Bloomington, IN during World War II, and for a few years at the Springs Valley Corporation in Paoli.
She attended the West Baden Baptist church for many years and also the Christ Lutheran Church in Zionsville. She was active in band boosters, PTA, and the Senior Citizens Center.
She completed several family histories of early settlers in Orange and Martin counties, much of which influenced a series of biographical historical fiction books, The Lost River Saga, by author Carolyn Howard.
She will be sadly missed by her sister, Mrs. Betty Curtis, of Prospect, Indiana; her children, Dr. Philip Gene Tomlinson of Arlington, VA, Rhea Dawn Nall of Zionsville, IN, Dr. Jo Ellen Tomlinson of Niceville, FL, Beth Ann O'Quinn of Franklin, TN, and Robin Gayle Krause of Rockville, MD; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family is planning a "celebration of her life" in the near future.
