Sanford (Sandy) William Sirkus
85, of Naples, FL and formerly of Shelbyville, passed away in Florida with his family by his side.
He was born on December 15, 1935 to the late Paul Sirkus and Lee Cutter Sirkus in St. Louis, MO. The family moved to Shelbyville when Sandy was an infant.
He was a graduate of Shelbyville High School, where he exceled at golf and baseball. (1954) and Indiana University (1958) where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Mu Fraternity. Sandy married his college sweetheart, Louise Kodicek, on July 26, 1959 and remained married until her death in 2008.
Sandy served in the US Army Reserves as a 2nd lieutenant for over 7 years.
Sandy raised his family in Shelbyville. Family was the single most important thing in his life.
He was dedicated to his 2 daughters and eventually his 4 grandchildren.
He was extremely active in the Shelbyville community and volunteered for a variety of organizations and was a long time member of Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation.
He was the owner of both Sirkus Realty and Sirkus Appraisal Agency.
He was president of the Shelbyville Board of Realtors and named realtor of the year in 1983.
Sandy joined the Indiana Society of Real Estate Appraisers in 1976 and later served as its director from 1986 to 1989, and later became president.
He and Louise moved to Naples, FL following retirement.
Sandy was an avid sports fan, particularly the St Louis Cardinals and IU basketball. He played golf most of his life and enjoyed reading and traveling.
Surviving: his daughters, Elizabeth Sirkus (Bradley) Cohen and Eden Sirkus (Mark) Bernstein; grandchildren: Adam Sirkus Johnson, Levi Sirkus (Kimberley) Bernstein, Emily Lois Bernstein and Zachary Paul Cohen; sister, Nanette (Michael) Suffian and special friend, Ronda Lande.
Due to current COVID restrictions, the family has decided to delay the date of gathering until June. A celebration of Sandy’s life will be held on June 21, 2021, 3pm, at Aaron-Ruben-Nelson Mortuary, 11411 N. Michigan Road, Zionsville, IN 46077.
