Shirley Efroymson-Kahn,
Long-time community member, passed away on September 25, 2022 at the age of 96.
Shirley was born on March 1, 1926, in Boston, Massachusetts to William and Edith Green. Shirley graduated with a master's degree in physical therapy and worked as her husband, the late Sidney Steiman, attended rabbinic school. The Steiman family moved to Indianapolis in 1961, as Rabbi Steiman became the senior rabbi at Congregation Beth-El Zedeck. In the late 60’s Shirley re-entered the workforce as a physical therapist at the VA Hospital and later worked for the Indiana State Department of Health as a site inspector for physical therapy facilities.
Shirley was a devoted member of Congregation Beth-El Zedeck and its Sisterhood, a member of Hadassah and an ardent supporter of Hillel Center at Indiana University.
She was preceded in death by her son, Ben Steiman, and her three husbands, Rabbi Sidney Steiman, Robert Efroymson and Kopel Kahn, who all brought rich and loving experiences into her life, .
She is survived by her son, Aron (Georgia) Steiman and daughter, Debbie (Tom) Steiman-Cameron; grandchildren, Jeremy Steiman, Noah and Ezra Steiman-Cameron, Synthia and Shar Steiman; daughter-in-law, Idrienne (Benny Weidberg) Steiman and extended family, Lori Efroymson-Aguilera (Sergio) and their family.
Graveside services will be on Thursday, September 29, 2022, at 1:30PM in Beth-El Zedeck North Cemetery. The service will be available to view by clicking the link below.
Shiva will be observed at the Steiman-Cameron home on Thursday, September 29, 2022 fromo 3 - 7PM.
