Sidney Nathan Sakowitz

July 8, 1925 — December 1, 2014

Sidney Nathan Sakowitz,
89 of Indianapolis, passed away December 1, 2014. A lifelong resident, he was born to Louis and Nesha Sakowitz on July 8, 1925. Sidney attended Purdue University and received his Associate Degree from Indiana University. He was the Owner and Managing Partner of Grocers Supply Co., working there all his life until retirement.

Sidney was a member of Congregation Beth-El Zedeck and B'nai Torah Congregation. He was very community and civic minded, serving on many boards as a member and officer. Sidney also loved volunteering, and was especially fond of the Boy Scouts. He was an Eagle Scout and received the Silver Beaver Award, the highest scouting award for volunteer work.

Sidney is survived by his children, Marcia (Bruce) Sklare, Anita (Dr. Alan) Kramer, and Jeff (Amy) Sakowitz; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of almost 64 years, Sarah.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at the Aaron Ruben Nelson Mortuary, 11411 North Michigan Rd, at 2 PM. Burial will follow in Congregation Beth-El Zedeck North Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Popsie's Pantry, 6905 Hoover Rd, or the Sidney Maurer Feed the Hungry Fund at Congregation Beth-El Zedeck.

The family will be sitting shiva at 2011 Mystic Bay Court on the following days:

Wednesday, Minyan will be held at 5:30 PM; shiva 7 - 9 PM
Thursday, Minyan will be held at 5:30 PM; shiva 2 - 5:30 PM and 7 - 9 PM
Saturday, shiva 7 - 9 PM
Sunday, Minyan will be held at 9 AM at Congregation Beth-El Zedeck; shiva 2 - 5:30 PM
