Sikha Chatterjee was born Sikha Ghosh in Kolkata to Rishikesh and Rekha Ghosh. She often spoke fondly about her youth in Kolkata, growing up in a big house with her siblings and innumerable cousins. From a young age, she was described by her loved ones as a vivacious, outgoing young woman who could light up a room with her contagious laugh. Her parents instilled in her a strong focus on education from a young age. She married in 1978 and welcomed her baby daughter Bidisha the following year. Upon graduating from RAK College of Nursing (BSC 1975, Masters 1988), she took up a teaching post, marking the start of 3 decades of influence over aspiring nurses. Her son Anustup was born in 1984.
In 1992 she moved, along with her family, to California. This marked the start of her career in hospital administration. After a year, our family moved to Indiana. She was remarried in2002 to Dr. SudiptoRoy. returned to teaching in 2006 as a professor at ivy Tech, where she taught until her passing.
Sikha was truly a special person who had a tremendous effect on everyone with whom she had contact. Her colleagues considered her to be a professional, dedicated professor who cared for her students above all else. Her mission was to properly train generations of caretakers, and her current and former students would agree that this mission was a success. She taught her children to be honest and honorable in all of their endeavors. She taught us to never let anything get in the way of our ability to love. She taught us that regardless of the setbacks we experienced, we must always set a positive example with our work ethic.
Sikha is survived by her daughter Bidisha, her son Anustup, and her husband Sudipto. We, along with our family, her friends, students, and colleagues will miss her tremendously. We will live our lives with honor, caring, and honesty. In that way, we will strive to live up to the sterling example she set on this earth.
