Sinnathamby Selvaratnam,
87, of Indianapolis, passed away on April 20, 2015. He was born in Jaffna, Sri Lanka on April 5, 1928. Selva (as he was affectionately known) received a Bachelor's degree from the University of Ceylon in Sri Lanka in 1951 and a post-graduate Diploma in Demography from the Demographic Training and Research Center in Bomay, India in 1958. Before his retirement, Selva was a Senior Population Expert at the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific at the United Nations in Bangkok, Thailand.
Selva is survived by his wife, Rajeswari of Indianapolis, IN; daughters, Shivi Selvaratnam of Indianapolis and Vatsala (Zikria) Syed of Malvern, PA; grandchildren, Arjuna and Anisha Mahenthiran and Jasmine and Sara Syed; and four sisters, Arulammah (Canada), Parimalam (United Kingdom), Mangayarkarasi (Sri Lanka) and Parameswary (Sri Lanka).
A funeral service will be held at the Aaron Ruben Nelson Mortuary, 11411 North Michigan Rd, on Saturday, April 25th at 6 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
