Stephen Joseph Hotseller

Stephen Joseph Hotseller, age 7, died early Saturday morning, February 15, 2020 after courageously battling cancer for more than two years. Stevie slipped into heaven in the bed he loved surrounded by love. Stephen was born on October 17, 2012 in Indianapolis, Indiana to his loving mother Sarah and big sister Savannah.

Stevie was a kindergarten student in Mrs. Trammell’s class at Carmel Elementary School where he served as the “Kindness Recorder.” Stevie loved riding his bike faster than any of us were ever comfortable with and was a natural athlete. He was a champion Ghosts in the Graveyard player and based on his comfort in swimming pools he was likely part fish! Stevie loved cheering for the Colts, the Pacers and the Michigan Wolverines and against the evil Ohio State “Bug Eyes”

Stevie is survived by his adoring mother, Sarah; loving sister, Savannah; and father, Michael Battle; maternal grandparents, Stephen and Patricia Hotseller; paternal grandmother, Dorothy Smitherman; aunts, Michelle (Ryan) Wilson and Rebekah (James) Hotseller; and a host of other relatives including brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles and cousins. Stevie is also survived by Timmie Smith, a man who played a critical role in his upbringing. Tom and Allie Missler were honored to play a small role in Stevie’s beautiful life as foster parents.

Stevie’s family would like to thank the incredible team at Riley who provided the best treatment and compassionate care throughout his courageous battle. We will forever be grateful for Dr. Michael Ferguson and his amazing team. Elisa, Tiffany, Shannon and Abby, you made our boy’s journey so much easier. Thank you.

Stevie’s services will take place Wednesday, February 19th at Aaron-Ruben-Nelson Mortuary. Visitation will be from 10 AM to 12 PM. A celebration of Stevie’s life will begin at noon.
